MIKE "SCHMITTY" SCHMIDT
I'm a 23 year old from Niagara Falls, ON whose been living in Guelph, ON, for the past 6 years. I came to Guelph for University, where I got my BSc in Zoology and now work a job I hate, raising moths and parasitic wasps at an industrial level at an insectary here in town. It's become clear to me that I'm not cut out for working the 9-5 grind, just waiting for the weekends to get outside and actually do the things I love. So cue the PCT!
I enjoy all things natural. I'm a real insect nerd and lately I've been developing a real fondness for birds as well. So I'll likely be seen quite often turning over rocks and logs, looking for creepy crawlies, or staring into trees while I hike. Luckily for me, my adventures won't end with the completion of the trail. Once we walk into BC, I will be settling down there for a while with my wonderful girlfriend Kim, so we can experience the mountains every day!

I'm also 23, born and raised in Niagara Falls Ontario. I spent a couple years right after highschool in London, Ontario "studying" bioarchaeology, and just recently completed a 7200 hour apprenticeship as a carpenter. I'm a huge fan of nature, and can't begin to convey how excited I am to think of living out in it for the duration of our trip. I truly love my job, and have some close connections here at home that I'll be reluctant to leave. However, the promise of adventure, beauty, and the opportunity to test myself both mentally and physically are drawing me South. My newly earned Journeyman's papers allow me a good amount of job flexibility, and with no set-in-stone plans for after the hike, I'm excited to see what the futures holds for me on the trail and beyond it, for I anticipate being forever changed by my experiences over the next 7 months.
